GOG LOVES 💕 - SB
Words by Tahirah Thomas
SB is a UK rap force to be reckoned with. Hailing from the musical melting-pot that is Tottenham, SB’s musical journey began with her love for singing in her teen years. Albeit, it wasn’t until she came back from being away in 2019, that the rising star began to blossom into the coveted musician we’re becoming acquainted with today. It’s not often that you come across a rapper with such a propensity for commanding the emotions of the listener through storytelling alone, and SB’s pun-heavy bars and assured tone have started her off in an unchartered musical lane entirely.
Turning heads when she came onto the scene with her Succession Freestyle via Mixtape Madness, debut single Clout saw the rapper re-introducing herself to the world all braggadocious over a cold Mya - Case Of The Ex sample. Then came her hard-bodied take on Meek Millz’s Flamerz Flow beat, before she arrived, dripping in feminine flair, with Lavida Loca on 2022’s New New.
Yet, it wasn’t until the entry of her Off Licence EP that we caught a full glimpse of the up-coming rapper’s true versatility. The projects’ Intro sets the scene, with SB sharing a dialogue between herself and her probation officer the day she came Off Licence (hence, the EP’s title), before we’re catapulted in a 6-track-wide collection of songs which draw influence from dancehall, hip-hop and R’n’B alike. SB isn’t an artist that needs gimmicks, as the experiences she shares within her music are raw and affecting enough to capture her audience's attention.
Already, she’s representing for the next generation of British rap talent in a big way. It’s safe to say that the future is looking bright for the young star; as she’s shown with this introductory musical chapter that she has her sights set on moving forwards only, never backwards. SB is proudly building her own audience & has released her music via her own YouTube channel, be sure to follow her journey & join her over on Instagram too - @sb2times.
