Escape to Ibiza with Maya Jama!!

Words by Tahirah Thomas

International DJ and broadcaster Maya Jama is taking her party-throwing mastery to new heights this year with The Ibiza Escape. In a collaboration between the tech-savvy experience curation platform Pollen and Jama’s Cling Cling Presents, the world's most renowned party island is set to welcome a roster of the most cutting-edge global talent across an exclusive round-the-clock three day cultural experience; brimming with club nights, pool parties, wellbeing classes and more.

Maya has curated the line-up herself and the experience embodies exactly what a BALANCED line up should look like, with performances from Bossy LDN, ArrDee, Jordss, Nadia Jae, Continental GT, Tiffany Calver, Todd Edwards, Jordss, Young T & Bugsey; plus many more acts still to be announced. We’ve taken a look into why Maya may have selected these incredible women to take-over the Ibiza shores with her this closing season.

Izzy Bossy (Bossy LDN) is London’s very own genre-blending specialist.

As an internationally renowned DJ, creative mentor and philanthropist - it’s not often you come across a disk-jockey with such a diverse musical palette and skillset. As a figurehead for the young Caribbean community in the UK, Izzy is heavily involved in bridging the musical gap between the burgeoning contemporary musical innovations of young Caribbeans and their presence within the international music scene. Thus, Izzy is one of the key tastemakers in the underground dancehall music space both in the UK and Jamaica; always  with her finger on the pulse of cutting-edge talent coming out of the islands - from  Shenseea right through to Skillibeng.

In 2020, Izzy launched the Fearless Community in Sanko Bay (Jamaica), which functions as a charitable platform, shaped with the intention of ensuring the future generation of Jamaican youth have access to the tools, support and information needed to succeed. Furthermore, for two years running Izzy has been a key player in the organisation of City Splash Festival; London’s premiere annual Caribbean music festival outside of Notting Hill Carnival. Always tapping into the diverse and colourful presence of Caribbean culture within Britain, with a love for music of all genres and backgrounds at her core and an unwavering desire to create community - it’s safe to say that there’s no party quite like a Bossy LDN party!

Nadia Jae is a national treasure.

Commanding the airwaves every morning on The 1Xtra Breakfast Show, Jae is tasked with waking up the nation with her immersive selections, uplifting news and interview segments. As a seasoned disk-jockey, with over half a decade’s worth of experience, Jae always stays up on music industry happenings, keeping an eye on the mainstream, whilst simultaneously keeping her ear to the ground and riding the oncoming waves of promising musical talent. As an idiosyncratic presenter with a ubiquitous voice and light-hearted sensibility, if you don’t find her on your radio, you can scoop her at Croydon’s Boxpark during the summer where she is the resident DJ and host to the popular social venue’s Love Island screenings. A friendly face within an industry known for being relentless, Jae is surely primed to set the Ibiza strip ablaze, whilst creating a party environment that the movers and shakers can feel at home in.

Jordss, who was once told ‘Girls Can’t DJ’!!

Cultivating a beautiful family of female DJ’s who are booked & busy and that have been taking up tonnes of space in the UK DJ scene, Jordss heads up ‘Girls Can’t DJ’. The community opposes the notion that female DJ’s lack in any type of questioned talent. Resident Rinse FM DJ, Jordss, produces regular shows with Boiler Room and wholesome radio show, Black Joy Archives.

Jordss is what they refer to in the DJ world as a - selector!! A party with Jordss could go from her meshing music from her heritage country of Jamaica with classic UK hits, to blending sounds from across the African diaspora with Drum & Bass!! Known as the Queen of RnB edits, Jordss’ performances go off worldwide!! You never quite know what you’ll get next, but you’re always guaranteed a great time!! This weekend, Jordss will be found hosting at Strawberries & Creem festival, with ‘Girls Can’t DJ’ taking over a whole stage programmed with the best female DJs & acts from across the UK - including CVSS, Miller Black, DJ Shaxx, Janelle Wynter, Taylah Elaine plus many more. A true advocate of female empowerment Jordss is due to set the Ibiza shores alight this September.

Tiffany Calver, a prominent tastemaker for rap music in the UK.

Ever the trailblazer for women in the radio industry, Calver has DJ’ed for the likes of Drake and Beyonce, as well as breaking new ground as the first woman to ever helm the Rap Show on BBC Radio 1Xtra. All this whilst steadily building a moniker for herself as one of the most renowned DJs across the capital with her famed Tiffany Calver & Friends club-nights over the years. Harnessing the foundations she’s built for herself in the rap world, this year Calver launched her own ‘No Requests” record label in partnership with mammoth industry-players Polydor Records; having already signed a promising roster of young talent, namely Bandokay, M’Way and Adz Heartless.

Now let’s talk about, Maya Jama!!

Maya is a multi-hyphenate creative entrepreneur with an authentic flair for capturing the cultural zeitgeist. Hailing originally from Bristol (UK), Maya has forged her own path across the nation’s broadcasting industry, from her humble beginnings as an underground DJ and radio presenter all the way to prime-time television; creating space and representation for women of colour in the British media industry with every step she’s taken towards the forefront of her field. Today, alongside her flourishing career in media, Maya runs two successful businesses - her skincare brand MIJ Masks and her Cling Cling Presents platform - all whilst continuing to be a tastemaker who bridges the gap between music, sports, fashion and television via her far-reaching social presence both within the UK, and on a global scale.

Maya Jama’s Ibiza Escape will hit the Ibiza island shores from 28th September - 1st October 2022, and will be held across its hottest venues including, Eden, Octan and Ibiza Rocks.
